You do not need to be a medical provider to undergo CPR training. There are classes designed for both health care and non-healthcare providers. CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation that comprises chest compressions and rescue breaths. It is a lifesaving technique worth learning. Proper application of the technique can revive the life of a victim struck with a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). SCA is a cardiac emergency where a victim would require immediate treatment for survival. Sadly, only about half of Americans know how to perform this procedure. This is pretty evident from the rising number of death cases due to a sudden cardiac arrest worldwide.
Training in this lifesaving procedure is the need of the hour. Most
cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospitals. Unfortunately, most such
victims die due to lack of knowledge in the technique on the part of the
bystanders that cost the victims their life. Contrary to popular belief, CPR is
a very easy skill to learn. Having said that, it’s not a skill that you can
grasp from just watching videos online, you need proper training in the hands
of certified instructors to be able to perform the procedure efficiently in a
real life situation.
Knowing how to administer CPR is a huge benefit to the society. The more
people who know how to act in an emergency situation, the better off will be an
area or the community for that matter as the better will be the survival
chances of victims. The survival chances of SCA victims doubles or triples when
bystander CPR is performed quickly before the arrival of emergency medical
services. The victim could either be a stranger that you can help with your
knowledge, or you yourself where others with knowledge can help you.
Also, CPR certification just enhances your resume since a lot of
employers, especially all jobs in health care followed by educators, childcare
providers, etc. either prefer or require a candidate to be CPR certified. Also,
being CPR trained shows you are responsible and care about others. Knowledge in
the procedure will equip you to save the life of someone amidst an emergency.
In the CPR class, you’ll get to learn and practice
1.
One-person
CPR
2.
CPR with rescue
breaths
3.
Hands-only
CPR
4.
CPR as part
of a 2 rescuer team
5.
AED
training to administer a shock to the SCA victim
There are no prerequisites. All it takes is the willingness and
dedication and the time to take a CPR class, and nothing else. Even kids can
take the classes, and are even encouraged to do so. They as well can play a
huge role in contributing towards the safety of cardiac arrest victims.
